#NTTMFW – What you need to know for Spring/Summer 2016

3007_9779

It’s been a busy week of catwalk shows, style master classes, pop-up performances and shopping offers as Nottingham Fashion Week took over the city.

Nottingham put on its very first week-long event to celebrate everything fashionable in the city – and fans flocked to various locations to check everything on offer – including us!

We managed to head along to the conclusion of the week when the anticipated Style Show Live took place and taking to the stage to host was BBC Radio 1 presenter Alice Levine. Before everyone hit the runway for the show, we managed to throw some questions at Alice as she took the hot seat, alongside show stylist Lola Royale and show co-coordinator Gaz Davies.

Alice, who many of you probably didn’t know is from Beeston, a Nottingham suburb, said: “It’s about time the city was recognised for its great fashion!”

About the Style Show, which featured pieces from well-known stores such as John Lewis, Debenhams, Primark, Topman and Hobbs. As well as Nottingham’s much loved independent brands and designers, including Gigi Bottega, Stick and Ribbon and Headcase Headwear, Alice added: “It’s a really nice showcase. If I say to people I’m from Nottingham, they always know about the shopping. This event is collaborating with what’s already here.

“When I come back I always shop – I love vintage and my favourite is the Sue Ryder store in Beeston. I’ve started bringing an empty bag with me when I come back.

“There are 50 retailers taking part in the live style shows and it’s good to see it all in motion.

What’s great is that people can watch the catwalk shows and then see in the programme where the clothes are from and go buy them.”

The beauty of Nottingham Fashion Week is that it is pitched at everyone perfectly. They are genuine items from our favourite high street stores, it has that achievable feel, where we know we could go out and buy it, style it and know we’re looking good for Summer. It’s one of the reasons why we wanted to take part here at High Street Gent.

At the beginning of the week there was great focus and perfect opportunity for the start-up brands and independents that Nottingham loves to display their work and ideas. We asked Alice, Lola and Gaz what they thought. Lola said: “I was over-whelmed when I went down to Made in Nottingham to see what people are achieving down there, it was humbling to see so much hard work paying off for people and some great clothing, designs and what could be future brands we know and love.”

Alice added: “It’s part of Nottingham’s charm when it comes to fashion, the brands down there have great support and nurturing from the likes of Made in Nottingham. I saw Ratchet Clothing in there and wanted to buy it all.”

The Style Show

So you’re probably wanting us to get on with why we attended Nottingham Fashion Week, and rightly so. The style show was broken down into six key trends to consider this Spring/Summer, and here goes. Well tell you a little about each and below are some photos. If you hover over each image, you’ll be able to find out where the items each model is wearing and where it is from.

Enjoy, we hope to see you wearing them this year!

Nauticaluxe

Influencing everything from apparel and accessories to colour, materials and beyond, discover how seafaring aesthetics can be updated with clean shapes and unexpected details to create effortlessly elegant styles.

Bringing the seaside to the city, nautical nostalgia is refreshed with a modern twist.

Classic stripe prints incorporate colour pops and changes in direction. Sportswear inspirations emphasise the clean appearance of designs. Uneven hems and wraparound layers introduce an urban element.

Botanicals

(Bear with us on this one, don’t be afraid!) Botanical illustrations are key as we look at the florals in a scientific manner. Sketched imagery of other wildlife such as bugs and butterflies also comes into play as the colour palette is natural with brown undertones.

Monochrome

Is there anything more timeless than black and white? The dominance of contrast prints is in this season. Which probably proves that monochrome is as relevant as ever, and the perfect way to work conversation prints and patterns into your wardrobe. We all default back to black & white if we’re unsure, so here’s the perfect opportunity to remain on trend.

Think Pink

Think pink…but not if you’re not very daring. There’s a variety of pinks you can wear, from a dusky pink (similar to ruining your white shirt in the wash with a red sock) or simply accessorising. For those bold movers out there, full hot pink can work if it’s what you want!

Dreamweaver

Think festivals. If you’re heading to a festival this year, the Dreamweaver trend is perfect for you. Think boo-hoo, think patterned, over-sized and complete hippy. Not to everyone’s choice, but you don’t have to go all out. Keep it casual.

Colour Clash

Our personal favourite from Saturday’s style show, it quite literally does what it says on the tin (pun definitely intended). Nothing is too colourful for this summer, buy it bright, buy it bold and make it clash.

So there we have it. There are a few ideas for you guys (and girls this time) to consider for this year. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank my photographer kate-henderson-photography.com for all the fantastic photos you can see. Please see below for a slide show of the whole event and for more ideas. Another thank you to Gemini PR and It’s in Nottingham.

#StyleIt – Rohnis International

image1

It’s spring (finally) and we’re looking at how you can wear what’s appropriate for this sunny, but still cold weather, when it’s likely to take a turn at any moment!

We all want to feel comfortable in this transition period from winter to summer, so a few bursts of colour and some strong wardrobe essentials will set us all up for whatever Spring may throw at us…and to be fair, it’s likely to be a whole lot of rain.

With this in mind, let me introduce to you Rohnis International. A UK based company, that, if you’re not the most daring fashion wise, but like to be on trend with trust worthy items, this is the brand for you.

Rhohni’s are an international company that design in-house and distribute innovative clothing throughout the UK and Europe with the talent and resources to supply the rest of the world.

They have been established for over 25 years and are based in Northumberland, UK. Through diligence, hard work, knowledge and connection they are able to source all their customer’s requirements globally.

All of their fashion brands are designed and developed at their head office, with the ever changing fashion trends, Rohni’s are at the forefront of worldwide research and development. Even with the samples we were sent here at High Street Gent, I can guarantee that their service is fast, efficient, reliable and very dependable.

image2

We were sent the above polo-tee and trainers from Rohni’s D-Rock clothing range. D-Rock clothing was established with the concept of combing urban cool with an aspiring laid back sophistication.

The collection brings a unique brand of personal style with a smart street inspired image which targets today’s trend-conscious men with this exciting and versatile selection of dynamic styles. The use of a combination of traditional modern fabrics and manufacturing techniques offer a hard wearing performance which enhance the brands uniqueness and individuality.

The polo-tee we were sent is one of those key wardrobe essentials, it’s casual, but could be smart, it’s neutral in colour, it has a simple yet effective design on it and it’s versatile. For Spring, having the bird design really ties in with the seasons fashion trends.

Similar to the tee, the trainers too are versatile, they’re dark in colour, with a touch of denim, to give the casual feel. So these are most definitely a trainer for style, not for practicality like the gym, but we all need those trainers we keep clean and shiny, so it’s not an issue…They are incredibly comfy too!

We twinned the tee and trainers with some cropped black skinnies, a red bobble hat for colour and attitude, perfect for a casual-feel spring afternoon.

If you want to find out more about Rohnis International please email info@rohnis.com or visit their twitter page: @_rohnis_ to browse their ranges…and because the guys at Rohnis are so nice, if you contact them directly they can provide you with their goods at the wholesale prices as opposed to the retail price that they would find online, since we love blogging about affordable fashion.

The Fundamentals of Undamentals

Undamentals_all_packaging-1002x617

Here we go again with another underwear review I hear you say…well this one is by far the best yet. Not only for the past few months have I been following this start-up company’s journey, the chaps there have given me an exclusive 50% discount for you gents. (Have a  scroll through and you’ll find out about this new brand and grab yourself a discount at the bottom).

Undamentals

Undamentals is a new Zurich-based startup that designs, manufactures and sells men’s
underwear online via an easy to control subscription service. You need never worry about your top drawer again!

They are a lifestyle brand offering great quality, stylish underwear, delivered to your door and completely hassle-free. They aren’t selling the perfect body so you’ll never see their pants on a model; they have reimagined the selling of underwear by displaying them in everyday situations throughout your daily journey. Always with you and offering support, Undamentals are your humble partners on life’s journey. Comfortable and stylish with denim inspired mélange colours and the best fabrics.

Undamentals’ approach builds on the trend for online-only fashion brands and subscription business models with notable startups experiencing recent success in the US. Undamentals brings this offer to the European market & beyond, with a grown-up proposition for the stylish and fashion conscious man.

Men need regular replacements for the most important of basics but are often too busy to replace as often as they should, we make this hassle-free and reliable. All Undamentals subscriptions can be managed easily on-line, either to cancel, skip or change as and when you want.

Undamentals confidently focuses on a core range of styles in denim-inspired colours and sells them direct to consumers through it’s own website. Consumers can buy a single pair or sign up for our easy to control subscription service, receiving a triple pack every 1, 3 or 6 months at a competitive discount.

Undamentals_pouch_line_up-1002x617

They have carefully selected suppliers in UK, Switzerland & Asia. Our core manufacturer also produces CR7, Jockey and Diesel underwear. All products are hand finished and use 210g per m2 cotton, 30% thicker than typical high street products; delivering a much softer and more luxurious feel.

Undamentals are subtly branded to deliver a premium and grown-up feel, while retaining a sense of fun and personality with their inner labelling messaging and playful delivery packaging.

Your underwear is Undamental to your daily life, so why compromise? Let Undamentals
breathe new life into your underwear and keep it fresh forever. Always hassle free and with understated style – try their underwear, love their underwear and trust them to manage your underwear drawer. Sign up with a subscription, forget about them then… Boom! A super cool package from Undamentals arrives.

Undamentals are available in single packs with our risk free first purchase guarantee or in
packs of three with a subscription. Subscribers enjoy a 25% discount versus the single
purchases and deliveries can be made every 1, 3 or 6 months. Subscriptions can be
amended or cancelled easily at any time.

Undamentals told me “We think of ourselves as a hassle-free subscription service for men. Taking the hassle out of remembering to refresh your underwear drawer. We also set-out to break the cycle of naked bodies and bright flashy colours, preferring instead to see underwear as your humble partners in life – wherever you are, your underwear is always along for the ride”

The underwear can be bought in single packs, to try them out for size, or in subscription triple packs at a 25% saving on singles – they’re shipped out at 1, 3 or 6 month intervals and you can change your subscription details at anytime. We include FREE worldwide shipping and it’s all in a fantastically branded pack that fits through your letter box!

A Fundamental?

To tie in with Undamentals launch in February this year (2016) we did a bit of research to find out how fundamental your underwear is and what and why you guys want when you’re buying. It’s pretty safe to say you shocked us and you do care what you want, and twinning your feedback with the Undamentals brand, we’d say your pants will never be better with this brand!

We asked 100 chaps (no Family Fortunes theme music unfortunately) and here’s fundamentally what you want:

  1. A whopping 62% of you wear boxers, whilst 32% of you chose briefs, leaving 5% going breezy commando!
  2. An average 53% of you said the size of your package DOES influence the type of underwear you buy!
  3. Support is the deal maker when it comes to the underwear you choose, followed by style and cost!
  4. Lastly, we asked “How important is the look of the underwear you buy to wear?” As you can see from the chart below, you DO care gents (…well at least most of you do anyway).

The Brand

Undamentals_park_bench-1002x617

The branding aims to highlight undergarments as “fundamental” to every day life, doing this through photography that sees a pair of pants replace human figures going about their daily business – such as sat a desk, on a park bench and in a barber’s chair.

The new brand was built on the insight that underwear is a humble but fundamental part of every day life but is often overlooked. As such a ubiquitous item of clothing, it deserves to be a considered, comfortable, quality and stylish purchase – our core proposition.

As the brand follows the underwear around its daily routine, it aims to show that “wherever you are, your underwear is always along for the ride.”

Discount

So before I give you the 50% discount code off your first shop at Undamentals, I’ll say: I’ve worn the samples from Undamentals for a few days now and they are by far the comfiest and roomiest briefs and boxers I’ve worn for ages. The clever branding of these, which is by far the best branding I’ve seen in along time, leaves me feeling like I’m wearing a pretty cool pair of pants and at the forefront of being a modern man!

These are definitely worth considering guys, it even runs with the theme of the High Street Gent ethos: “for those who would rather not venture into town on a Saturday, hopefully, by staying ‘in the loop’ it can be simple to head in the right direction, be in and out the shop quickly, wallet intact and looking fly…”..so let Undamentals also help you, get you undies delivered straight to your door!

**Discount** Valid until the end of March 2016 50% off for the first 25 High Street Gent readers, please use HIGHSTREETGENT50 at the check out. If your not lucky enough to be one of the first 25 here’s 20% off anyway UNDAFOLLOWER20. (Don’t say I never treat you).

Style it! ft. Skull & Bones

image2You chaps have been more interested in what I’ve been wearing and how recently, so here goes another ‘style it!’.

With Spring approaching fast, although it’s still bloody freezing out, we’re all going to start peeling back the layers and try to bask in whatever sun we can grasp at.

Bear that in mind, pop your thermals back in the wardrobe and here are a few things to consider for the coming weeks. I’m going to share with you a cracking little store I’ve stumbled across  that has some great items at very reasonable prices and with that we can officially announce we’ve gone international…

Skull & Bones

Skull & Bones is a mens underwear and t-shirt company that uniquely merges activewear, premium fabrics, and minimalist design to create a unique blend of comfort and forward-looking style. Through their blend of luxurious and high-tech fabrics, they provide customers with lightweight, premium undergarments that looks as good on under clothes as they do on a bedroom floor.

Like you, they were tired of the current trends in men’s premium underwear. Everything was boring! The fabric wasn’t soft or comfortable enough. The selections of colours were bland. There was no fashion-forward edge to anything in the luxury underwear market.

They knew they would have to start from scratch. They sampled every kind of fabric possible, tried hundreds of fits, and obsessed over every single stitch until they created our dream product. Then they made it even more luxurious by incorporating superior fabrics like Modal, Supima Cotton, and high-tech Carbon Fiber.

They promise to provide you, the customers, with the clothing that will allow you to be your most confident and comfortable, no matter the occasion. S&B promise to provide you with the products to support your active lifestyle, whether you’re hitting the gym or getting ready for a night out. They understand a man’s desire for excitement and adventure – and want to be the product you turn to at every milestone. They’re here, quite literally, to support you any way that they can.

You won’t find another clothing company that reflects the sexy, fashion-forward design and attitude of New York City.

The focus on their multipurpose clothing means you can mix it, dress it up for occasions or dress it down for the gym. With this in mind Dan & Tom have chosen two ways in which to wear Skull & Bones.

Get the look:

Both Dan & Tom said that Skull & Bones clothes are ridiculously nice to wear, they aren’t lying when they say the material has been tested over and over to find the best for us chaps to wear – its incredibly comfy!

It’s Not All Pants…

With the popularity of the last underwear post at Christmas, I’ve been in-undated with requests from individuals and companies to write another. With that in mind and Valentines day coming up, I thought it was the prime time to do another review of some of the best underwear brands online that could spice up your romantic weekend, or simply just refresh your undies drawer!

From the last post ‘Don’t Get Caught With Your Pants Down‘ it’s obvious that us guys do care about our underwear; and attitudes to what we wear underneath our finery is changing. Researching into pants and socks I realised we’ll talk about it openly and genuinely care about what we look like in our undies…whether it’s at the gym, around the house or out to impress that special someone.

So here goes, ahead of Valentines day, if you want something new to make a subtle gesture to your other half, here’s some of what the internet has to offer, at really reasonable prices and of great quality!!

Keep an eye out below for some exclusive High Street Gent voucher codes too – there’s some cracking offers that some of companies below have given you guys! Be wise!

Blacksocks/The Sockscription

image1

Blacksocks are currently promoting their UK launch – The Original Sockscription! Blacksocks has been delivering high quality premium socks on subscription since 1999. It is a Swiss company predominantly providing Italian made socks but also shirts, t-shirts and boxers. The service they provide is impeccable, unique and very premium.

As an already established service in Switzerland, Germany and in some parts of the US, Blacksocks have over 60,000 customers in 75 countries. At the moment they are aiming to increase visibility, site visits, brand awareness and sales in the UK, their launch plan is under way and part of that is utilising the powerful UK Blogging scene (hence us at High Street Gent snapping them up).

Blacksocks’ main target audience is money rich, time poor professionals who demand quality in every aspect of their lives, including how they look.

REVIEW: In terms of new products and info Blacksocks have recently bought out a new line of Funky socks, these are the top 5 on the funky socks page on the website, pictured above, as well as business ranges.

The material is nothing like that of any socks i’ve tried before…it’s so soft and keeps you toes warm in this crap weather! They’re fashionable, eye catching and we’ve had a lot of comments on them so far!

Manhood Undies

“Join an underwear revolution”

Manhood Undies is an online independent retailer of men’s underwear and swimwear based in the UK. They are more than just an online store; they are the start of a movement that is going to revolutionise the underwear and swimwear habits of men up, down and across the UK and hopefully the world! They want to educate the modern man that it’s about time he wore modern underwear.

You won’t find the usual selection of boring boxer shorts or the same swimwear that 1000s of other blokes have bought from a big High Street store. They have searched the world looking for the most exciting and stylish men’s underwear and swimwear. You won’t find their brands on the High Street, and some of them you won’t even find on other men’s underwear websites.

“The best online underwear and swimwear”

All of their products are selected personally by a team of passionate buyers who only select underwear and swimwear that is going to make your manhood look its best. We have a huge selection of styles for every occasion and use.

Their range includes everything from bold coloured briefs through to sexy see-through boxers (perfect for Valentines lads). They have a range of styles; you will find trunks, hipsters, briefs, boxer briefs, thongs and jockstraps.

REVIEW: We reviewed a pretty wide selection of undies sent to us from Mark at Manhood, here’s what we got:

  • Junk Underjeans – Heist Trunk – these boxers are perfect for the gym, they’re supportive, have material that allows you to breath, all whilst staying stylish and fashionable.
  • Cocksox / CSX – CSX03 Waistband Brief – is created with a retro style for the active guy. The CSX Sports Brief is also made from the same high tech Supplex fabric that wicks away moisture, retains shape, dries quickly and is extremely long lasting. Engineered with the sportsman in mind, this brief also includes heat press care labels (no scratchy tags), a fully breathable design, a contour support pouch designed for maximum comfort and a durable/long lasting structure.
  • FIT-IN1 – Colour Day Brief – like the above this style of pant is perfect for day-to-day wear, the gym and all the time keeping you looking your best…who knows when you’ll be down to just your underwear!
  • 2eros – Icon Brief – is a brightly coloured low-rise brief. The brief has thick bright white accent seams around the legs and crotch. The pouch seams are positioned to slightly lift and show off your package. The 95% modal and 5% elastane fabric of these briefs is light and flexible. The colour, cut and lifting pouch can make any guy stand out in the crowd.
  • Freedom Reigns – Bodysport Brief – Their top selling trunk features inner straps that are unnoticeable when wearing, but actually give the wearers buttocks considerable lift, much like underwear dose for women’s breasts. Style-wise, they continues to distance itself from competitors. The men’s underwear brand utilises trademark design features such as asymmetrical stripes, bold colors and trendy patterns. For being such a “super fun” brand, Freedom Reigns Underwear surely knows how to make and design amazing, competitive products.

If you’re after a one stop shop for all your pant needs (casual, sport, bedroom, etc.) check out Manhood Undies!

Wigwam

Wigwam2

Wigwam care that thousands of manufacturers in this country sacrifice quality for less-expensive labor in other areas of the world, to increase the bottom line. They continue to lobby in Washington D.C. for programs that responsibly limit the quantity of imported products coming into this country while still pursuing a policy of fair trade with many global neighbours. They care about the environmental, sociological, and financial implications of this policy.

Wigwam want you to feel good about buying the Wigwam brand because they’ve set a standard of integrity that they strive to live up to every day.

The manufacturing facility is state of the art and getting more “green” all of the time. They have and are working with local utilities to improve efficiency and limit carbon footprint by installing solar energy panels to heat water, motion sensory lights to limit wasted power, and responsible waste management to re-use and recycle as much as they can.

For over 100 years, Wigwam has been dedicated to enhancing the lives of their customers. Wigwam have done this not just through providing them the finest quality socks, but by providing them with the assurance that their purchase of Wigwam socks supports its reputation of honesty and integrity.

REVIEW: Dan (High Street Gent) actually won a pair of these socks on a Twitter competition through Wigwam (you can win them guys, keep an eye out) and told us that they are perfect for long walks and hiking…the kind of sock perfect for wearing in chunky boots.

Bargain Time. #Watches

Watch

“Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend”

…and on time is what I’ve spent my money. Not a lot of money, but hence the reason for this very short, but very sweet post.

Unfortunately, my trusty watch stopped at the weekend, I’ve had it for a good few years, so tasked myself with finding a new one. I wanted something suitable for work and play and more importantly not too pricey.

If you’re like me, I feel naked without my watch on, so I wanted a new one pretty sharpish…having spent 3 days looking at my bare wrist for the time. Not cool.

After browsing the first places online that sprung to mind, nothing was jumping out at me. They were either ridiculously chavy or came with a hefty price tag. That was until I remembered ASOS had sent me an email about their Men’s Watches Sale a few weeks ago, so I head on over to their site.

I found it. It’s smart, classy, eye catching and not a chunky number that screamed “rob me”.

The Sekonda Leather Strap Watch with Mechanical Detail (Item 3426.27) was mine.

The best part about it is that it only cost £39.99. Right on time.

I’ve blogged about ASOS before and how speedy their service is, it’s cracking. I ordered at 6 pm at night, with next delivery for a fiver. At 10 am the next day my wrist was fully dressed again, not catching the breeze and I could relax, ready for anyone to ask me time. (I’ve been some what walking around the office today with my sleeve rolled up, hoping someone will ask about it).

I’m my own worst enemy though, I give away all my secrets and told them how much it was.

Chaps, if you’re looking for a new watch, that looks expensive (minus the price tag) take a look at ASOS’ Watches range – with currently 70% off a lot of items, even watches, it’s top notch.

Style it! What You Wearing?

A quick blog post to start off 2016…the optimum time to grab yourself a bargain lads!

At the beginning of December I was at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, wearing what I thought was a pretty casual set up of clothes. My mate took a picture of me and naturally it became my profile picture across social media…

…Since updating my profile picture, I’ve had lots of people ask me where I got a few of the items from, therefore, as a New Year ‘style it’, I thought I’d let you into a secret, my secret chaps…

It’s a relatively cheap and versatile outfit, suitable for many occasions, so here is a little insight (if you’re even bothered) to where and how to dress for these dark, depressing and freezing cold months at the start of the year.

Plus, you may get a ‘Brucie Bonus’ in the January sales by getting them even cheaper than I did!

Double Button Camel Coat: Primark £30.00

Burgundy Long Sleeve Polo Jumper: Primark £8.00

Black Extreme Stretch Cropped Skinny Jeans: ASOS £12.00

Camel Barbour Scarf: Debenhams £20.00

Burgundy Suede Chelsea Boots: H&M £25.00

Outfit cost total: £95.00

There’s my little cheat for you, if you’re looking for a similar look, whether it be for a smarter event or even a casual stroll around town, it’s well worth a look around!

By twining day-to-day brands with household favourites like ‘Barbour’ you can re-wear, recycle, and mix up your outfits.

Of course, ninety-five smackers for one outfit may seem a bit steep, but remember £30 of that is a coat (wear it whenever) and £25 boots, which are a nice alternative to leather shoes when heading into town on a Saturday night!

Drag your Blazer Out the Wardrobe and Down to the Pub

A blazer. A blazer doesn’t have to be that one item of clothing that only gets a run-out during wedding season. Blazer isn’t just your answer to events with a posh invitation or job interview. Style it right (and invest well…that doesn’t even need to cost a lot of money) and one good piece can take you from desk to bar to nuptials, and everywhere in between.

The All-Purpose Blazer Style

The more ornate your jacket, the less adaptable it becomes. It’s easier to polish something simple than to try and dial down gold buttons and a crest. “A two-button jacket with patch pockets and soft shoulder is versatile enough for any occasion,”

“You can dress it up, or dress it down.”

But colour is key. Brights won’t work in formal settings, so steer neutral. Navy is sober enough for work and you can use accessories to turn the shade to whatever occasion you may wish to dress for. Look for something half-lined, in an open-weave wool, so you can still wear it when the temperature starts climbing.

It’s time to promote your blazer from subs bench to the first name on your tailoring team sheet!
1. With A White T-Shirt, Dark Jeans, And Trainers

Ditching the collar evicts any stuffiness. Try to avoid wearing a printed tee under a blazer! …and most definitely avoid anything too bulky, as it will ruin the sharp silhouette of your jacket.

Swerve them with raw denim a few shades darker than the jacket and a pair of minimalist sneakers. This is no place for anti-fit. Your jeans should be slim, as should your tee, which should also end before your blazer. Don’t even consider tucking it in!!

2. With A T-Shirt, Hoodie, Chinos, And Boots

The blazer is your key high-low piece. Since it’s less formal than a suit jacket it plays better with streetwear, so you can pull together disparate pieces without looking like you dressed in the dark. Just cool your palette; it’s easier to blend neutrals than brights when you’re meshing styles.

Again, fit is key. The jacket’s slim, so your hoodie, shirt and chinos need to match. But this is no time for fussiness, so leave the jacket and hoodie open, then opt for boots over trainers to cement the urban explorer vibe, but means you can still go to a pub or bar.

3. With Black Skinnies, A Shirt, Sweatshirt, And Chelsea Boots

Your blazer’s formality is defined by what it sits with. For weekends, you need to lose any office ornamentation. Swap the neck noose for an air tie and keep your trousers simple.

Chelsea boots take your jeans up a notch, but trainers will shift your jeans from casual Friday to kick-back Saturday. Just make sure they’re plain, unadorned and crafted from leather.

 4. With Flannel Trousers, A Roll Neck, And Chelsea Boots

Playing with texture is a power move that can break up a tonal outfit, and pull together opposing shades. Contrasting your blazer with flannel in a darker shade ups its formality, but keeps you out of suit territory.

“Dress it up by wearing it with dark grey trousers,”

The roll neck helps you outflank that tricky open-collar-or-not conundrum.

Casual shoes turn things too informal for work, but add a pair of chocolate brogues (or even oxblood monk-straps if you’re still a big name in the #menswear forums) and you’ve got a look that can take you straight from desk to double scotch.

5. With Jeans, A Tee, Casual Blazer, And Boots

The best way to stand out in a suited-and-booted office is to shun both. “Team it with a crisp sky blue shirt with a bluff point collar, with no topstitching,” says Lee-Anne Solomons, buyer at Austin Reed and Viyella menswear. “This combination will give you a clean and refined base for you to add character.”

Accessories lift your look but silk will drown out your blazer. Instead, think texture; a knitted tie in a darker shade than the jacket and shirt hints at your colleagues’ matchiness, without succumbing.

“Have the outfit ready and then add the blazer, and if that works go with it.” Which means your look still works when you drape your jacket over your chair back.

Climb out the ManCave during Winter

Winter means skin brutality, especially for your face. And it’s winter now, so we’re going to talk about how to take care of that moneymaker of yours. And no, there’s absolutely nothing unmanly about making sure you have cracking skin. But that doesn’t mean you should adopt your girlfriend’s daily 10-step anti-aging, herbal-infused, citrus-scented, green-masked facial cleaning ritual. It’s really much simpler than that.

After all, imagine that you are about to approach a pretty girl at a bar / lounge / club. You’re well dressed, confident and ready to charm. But one small problem, you just stepped inside and the tolls of the cold, windy day have cracked your lips, made your cheeks red and irritable, and your nose blotchy and dry. Not a good look, no matter how smooth you are. So don’t handicap that charming personality of yours by not taking care of your style and your skin. From the dimple in your tie to the pimple on your face, remember that your entire appearance is sending a message.

I’ve blogged about my firm favourite when it comes to grooming ‘ManCave’ before, it’s great. Versatile.  Worthwhile. Proven. And, a little goes a long way.

So in this post, we’ll cover the 3 essential steps to help you ensure that your face not only survives winter but your complexion stays as fresh as your chosen attire, and all by using ManCave’s range of grooming products!

Step 1: Identifying Your Skin Type

Have a read below and see what you are, I have quite sensitive skin so I’m reluctant usually in using any products.

The first step to properly caring for your skin is knowing your skin type. Caring for your face without knowing your skin type is the equivalent of shopping for pants without knowing your waist size. Everyone falls into five general skin types:

  • Normal – Consider yourself one of the lucky few. This is the least problematic skin type. Skin is neither oily or flaky and is supple and smooth to the touch.
  • Dry – Tight skin, often showing flakes of dead skin. Typically associated with small pores.
  • Oily – Shiny skin, characterized by a layer of oil that can be associated with larger pores.
  • Combination – The most common skin type where the skin is oily in the “T-zone” shown above and normal to dry in other areas.
  • Sensitive – Reacts easily to products and irritations (both external and ingested), often turning red, itchy or developing a rash.

Back to the product…the best thing about ManCave products is that they use natural active ingredients, such as the effective amino L-Arginine – followed up with 12 essential oils, then each product is completed with a signature key ingredient, ranging from Caffeine, Panthenol, Shea Butter, Borage Oil to the captivating scent of Cedarwood. As the scent is natural, there are no chemicals to irritate or dry your skin out.

Step 2: Cleansing

“I’m fine using soap.”

Soap?! No, you’re not fine. The problem with using ordinary soap to wash your face is that it dries your skin more than liquid cleansers. Dry skin not only looks bad, it can clog your pores and cause acne. A cleanser should remove accumulated dirt, excess oil and not contain harsh chemicals or detergents that strip away essential moisture. That moisture is what you need to protect you against the elements.

It’s all about balance. Choose cleansers that will balance out that your natural skin oils or lack thereof, and leave you refreshed. For example, if you’re someone with very oily skin you’ll want to use a lightweight cleanser that doesn’t leave your face feeling like a mucky saucepan. If you’re someone with very sensitive skin, you’ll want to avoid cleansers with harsh chemicals that’ll cause irritation and breakout.

And once you choose a cleanser, the ManCave ‘Face Wash’ or ‘FaceScrub’ for example, is there a proper way to wash your face? Yes, here’s how:

Splash warm water on your face. Warm water opens up your pores and helps you to clean deeper. Using chosen product, lather your face using a gentle circular motion. Scrubbing harder does not equal being cleaner – it will only cause irritation.

Remove the cleanser by rinsing with warm water. Never use hot water on the face as it dries out your skin.

When finished, gently pat your face dry with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing your face as it promotes wrinkles.

After the use of the ManCave FaceWash or FaceScrub, which is simply applied in the shower, your skin will feel fresh and airy (believe me I use it daily). That’s because ManCave’s Willow Bark FaceWash combines natural extracts to refresh, waken and purify skin leaving a fresh, healthy appearance – without drying your skin. Or, ManCave’s natural FaceScrub hydrates and uses Olive Stone to exfoliate your skin helping reduce the occurrence of blocked pores, blackheads and ingrown hairs.

Step 3: Moisturizing

Yes, men can moisturize. No, it doesn’t make you any less of a man. You should moisturize – especially during the winter – because your skin is prone to dryness…especially when those cold, bitter winds can make it feel like someone took a piece of sand paper and scrubbed your face with it. So aim to moisturize once or twice a day, especially right after you wash your face.

As with cleansers, make sure you consider your face type when choosing a moisturizing / face lotion. You don’t need to with ManCave. ManCave’s innovative natural oil-free face moisturizer is enriched with bioactives and UV filters to create a soothing easily absorbed formula, thats’ light and suitable for most skin types!

The Final Scrub Word

ManCave definitely delivers on its promise of providing quality, masculine bathroom products for men at a price that few can argue with.
