Gym must haves for Autumn

Summer is almost over and our sunny days on the swimming pools or at the beach are numbered. For a lot of people, this means going back to their regular workouts in the gym. And with this comes the age old question, what should we pack in our gym bag? Some people are organized and already know what they need, but the others have a hard time keeping track of what’s necessary and what’s not. That is why we compiled this list of must haves for your gym workouts this fall.

Water Bottle

This is a no-brainer for all gym rats out there, but a lot of people forget to put one in their gym bag. If you are one of the forgetful bunch, then we recommend that you to get one high-quality water bottle you will only use for the gym and always keep in your bag. They don’t wear out easily and don’t require much cleaning.

Gym Clothing

Workout clothes is something every gym lovers should think about. Sweating in the gym is normal and necessary, if you’re not sweating, you are not training hard enough and wearing the right gear.. That’s why you should look for high quality gym clothing like Distinct Clothing offers. Good pair of gym fit t-shirts or tanks and compression shorts are a must this fall.

Jockstraps

Jockstraps are very important if you do a lot of cardio and have a lot of bouncing down there. They will provide a much-needed support and keep your whole “package” in one place. There are a lot of models you can choose from, but essentially, what makes a good jockstrap is a resilient rear strap and a firm waistband. Pick designs that you like at JockUp and you are set to run for as long as you want. Also, wash your jockstrap frequently because they tend to get dirtier and smellier faster than the regular underwear.

Sports Watch

A good sports watch is absolutely necessary for gym workouts that include running or multiple rounds of exercises. We know that you can count in your head how much sets and reps you did on the bench, but if you really want to enhance your performance while doing time sensitive exercises, we strongly recommend that you get one. If you keep track of the time to the millisecond, you can see where your strength dips and improve on that. Some of the best sport watches you can check out here.

Body shapers

One last thing on our list is body shapers. The body shaper is essentially underwear that goes beneath your clothes to make your body figure leaner and add additional support. Some people question the need for body shapers in your workouts, but we think that they have wider use than just giving you a better look. Because of their tight grip they can provide additional support for your back, chest or belly, depending on what model you are wearing. Companies like Leonisa make one of the best body shapers on the market and offer a wide range of models. Pick the one you need and you will not only look better but also have much needed extra support during your intense workouts.

With this, we conclude our list of necessary equipment for your gym workouts. We hope that you found this article useful and that it reminded you of a few things that you would otherwise forget. So, this fall, when the summer is officially over and all of you gym lovers return to your sanctuaries, remember to pack items from this list and enjoy your workouts.

Gruhme continues to grow

Processed with VSCO with b5 preset

Congratulations to our favourite men’s fragrance brand, Gruhme.

We recently featured Gruhme as an already acknowledged brand for it’s fantastic fragrances, in particular the award winning No.14. It therefore came as no surprise earlier this week when the following announcement landed in our inboxes:

British fragrance house Gruhme continue their success as they launch in luxury retailers Flannels, Cruise Fashion and Van Mildert. Thanks to the latest partnerships, the award winning men’s fragrance is now available in over 50 shops across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

“We are thrilled to have established a partnership with Gruhme, and are excited to be able to offer the product to our customers, both through our retail stores and online channels.

The partnership comes as part of our expansion into the fragrance category, which is a new venture for the company”, says Flannels Marketing Manager Jenna Triscott.

Head of Sales at Gruhme, Tom Kollen, says he is excited to be working with these well-established retailers which he describes as being the perfect fit for their brand. He also expects other high end retailers to follow suit and take on their products in the near future.

“This is one of the fastest growing markets right now, and there is a tremendous increase in the demand for niche men’s fragrances, especially if they are made in the UK.”

Gruhme, who won Best Men’s Fragrance in the grooming category at the Beauty Shortlist awards earlier this year, was founded in late 2013 and has experienced a steady growth over the last couple of years as well as an ever increasing interest from magazines and bloggers reviewing and praising their products.

Congratulations once again to Gruhme on securing more stockists, we, here at High Street Gent, look forward to seeing you expand.

What does your choice of car say about you?

He loves his convertible.

New research by a money saving website in the UK has revealed what car brands say about their driver, with BMW drivers most likely to be promiscuous, Ford drivers most likely to get married and Kia drivers most likely to have a spotless driving record. According to the poll, 32% of drivers judge others on their car choices, and a further 15% have been mocked because of the car they drive.

Over half of British drivers feel that the car they drive says a lot about them, and when given a list of character traits to determine patterns, it’s been revealed that BMW drivers are more likely to be promiscuous and Hyundai drivers are most likely to spend time in prison.

The team at www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk conducted the research as part of an ongoing study into Britons on the road. 2,186 British drivers aged 18 and over, all of whom stated that they had owned a full driving license for a minimum of two years, were quizzed about their driving habits and the vehicle that they drove in order to determine any trends and patterns.

According to the poll, 57% of Britons admitted that they felt a car says a lot about the driver, with almost a third of respondents (32%) admitting that they judge other drivers based on their car choices and a further 15% stating that they have been mocked because of their car.

In order to determine if there were any trends between a driver’s personality and their car, all respondents were provided with a list of statements and told to select all those that applied to themselves, as well as state what make of car they owned. Once all of the responses were collated, the top trends per car type were revealed as follows:

· BMW drivers – I am a promiscuous person (69% of these drivers agreed)

· Kia drivers – I have children (59%)

· Ford drivers – I am/would like to get married (56%)

· Mini drivers – I have a spotless driving record (41%)

· Corsa drivers – I am unemployed (23%)

· Toyota drivers – I drive recklessly (32%)

· Land Rover drivers – I am due to inherit/have inherited money (24%)

· Mercedes-Benz drivers – I have/have had an STI (15%)

· Vauxhall driver – I own my own business (11%)

· Hyundai drivers – I have spent time in prison (6%)

George Charles, spokesperson for http://www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, said:

“It’s interesting that the car you own can say a lot about you. We all look for different things when we’re looking at cars; the speed they can do, the colour, the shape, whether or not it comes with additional features, and so on. With this in mind it makes sense that those who drive similar cars will have similar character traits; parents need bigger cars to accommodate for their children, bachelors will want something flashy to catch attention and show off, and those who love the countryside will no doubt prefer a 4×4.

There are some unexpected ones in there too, perhaps you can’t always judge a book by it’s cover when it comes to reckless Toyota drivers and STI-ridden Mercedes owners!”

Keeping it cool in the heatwave

Soaking up some sun

Summer can be a tough time for us chaps, especially when out of nowhere the sun cranks up it’s temperature gage and treats us all. What do we wear, what do we do, we’re sweating, it’s grim…Well we thought we’d help, and lets be honest, if we didn’t hurry up and get this post out, we’d all be reaching for our umbrellas again in no time!

So when traditional work suits and cotton dress shirts become unbearable, what should a fashionable man wear?

We’ve seen a couple different articles and style guides for warm weather dressing, but none of them complete or detailed enough to pass for a real comprehensive resource.

This guide is our attempt at a full hot-weather clothing resource. Everything in it should be functional at temperatures into the 90s (32+ C) and even hotter…

Priorities

What matters when it’s hot, and what doesn’t. The things you should think about when you buy hot-weather clothing.

Looks are always important, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. When the mercury climbs up above 80 degrees (26.6 C) you need functional clothing. Consider these the most essential characteristics for hot weather menswear:

Light Weight

img_5413

Swim shorts from Bowler & Beach

This should really go without saying. You want cloth that is physically light. The less ounces/grams of textile piled up on your skin, the less work you’re doing and the easier it is for air to circulate.

Wool is the only cloth that you can almost always get a weight for in specific ounces. You’ll see it for cotton and linen some of the time, but frequently you’ll need to try on a garment, or at least pick it up, to see how heavy it’s going to be.

Whenever possible, try hot weather clothes on before buying. Ten minutes of gently moving around the store or changing room will give you a very good idea of how easy it is to carry the weight. If you’re sweating after that, it’s definitely not going to be fun to wear on a hot day in the sun.

Breathability

Young man on the streets of big city.

This is just as important as light weight, if not more so!

You need air circulating over your body to stay cool. Fabric that doesn’t breathe well will trap both sweat and hot air near your skin, leading to rapid overheating.

Finer threads, looser weaves, and more porous materials all help add to a textile’s breathability. Artificial fibers are typically non-breathable, and will make a garment more likely to keep sweat and air in.

It’s hard to overstate the importance of a good weave as well as a good fabric. A lot of cheaper manufacturers will sell anything cotton as “summer wear,” regardless of whether it’s any good in hot weather or not. A tight cotton weave holds both air and moisture in — it’ll be pure torture to wear on an 80-degree day.

Sun Protection

OV3A1442-DONE

Style & accessories from Mancave London

Most men spend less time thinking about sun protection than they should. Even dark-skinned men will feel the heat more in the sun, regardless of whether their skin can burn or not, and lighter-skinned men can find themselves in a lot of pain if they’re not careful.

Happily, classic men’s styles lend themselves well to full-body protection. Long sleeves and full trouser legs can be more cooling than a T-shirt and shorts in the right conditions. Hats and sunglasses play their role as well. And light colors will reflect far more sunlight than darker shades, keeping your clothes themselves from growing warmer in the sun.

Every warm-weather outfit should include a moment or two of thought for whether it can cover more skin comfortably or not. The less direct sun you’re soaking up the happier you’ll be, so long as it can be done with light and breathable fabrics.

Deliberate Style

The trouble with most summer outfits is that they’re products of necessity, not style. You throw on shorts and a T-shirt so that you don’t overheat, not because they look good.

Looking stylish in the summer is as much about small, deliberate gestures as it is anything else. Khakis and a white shirt are comfortable, but you look like a low-level IT staffer.

When you make a summer outfit you need to be thinking about the colors, patterns, textures, and accessories all together. The difference between stylish and just functional could be as small as a different belt or the right pocket square.

But if you don’t take the time to make that small difference you just look like one more overheated office guy. So believe us when we say that style is as important an element of hot weather clothing as breathable cloth!

Keep your style cool this summer…

The history of British menswear

We’ll often see trends making a reappearance, but are we ever entirely sure where it came from, how far we’ve come and why these changes occur?

T.M.Lewin have been looking at just how far we have come and what styles, cuts and materials the sartorial gent has worn over time. Taking inspiration from a back catalogue of historic pieces, T.M.L drive to deliver the best quality, tailored for any occasion, from weddings to work events. With an unrivalled choice of colours and styles in three different fits, you will see below that there are many factors that influence why things change, but also, when it comes to dressing smart, what us chaps have adopted time and time again.

So here’s to you dapper-chaps, take a look at a 300-year history of British Menswear. (You’ll see that over time, us chaps have become far more daring when it comes to smart wear choices and professionals in adopting styles, with the help of brands such as T.M Lewin…it’s pretty neat!)

TMLewin_fashion_history_x2

Men’s fashion has certainly evolved through the centuries, as any look at men’s historical clothing will show you. While much has always been made of women’s fashions, men’s styles are no less noteworthy. Students of fashion and history can clearly see how a man’s status and class affected his wardrobe.

While looking at men’s historical clothing can be educational, it can also be an intriguing way to view the past. As with all things in fashion, what’s old is often new again. Styles that you thought you’d never see repeated are sometimes resurrected in better…or worse ways!

We’d like to thank T.M.Lewin for the fantastic graphic above, and if you would like to view their ranges of suits and shirts now you know where their inspiration stems from, head over to view all suits on their website.

One to watch: Wolf State Clothing

Welcome to the new kids on the block. The tee shirt makers from the West Midlands have relaunched their brand and we’ve thrown them into our hot seat to do some digging.

We thought you chaps would want to know how you go about starting your own label, why, where you start and so we can find out the truth behind Wolf State Clothing…

Wolf State started in early 2015, with a small collection of two shirts. These shirts sold incredibly well for a small independent brand and we sold quite a few to America and Europe, which was incredible and highly inspiring.

Towards the end of 2015, they decided we needed a little bit of a rebrand, they spent around 4 months in total coming up with ideas, planning, designing and sampling.

Wolf State wanted to make sure they could deliver a quality range and for a re launch it had to special. They recently launched their re brand and have a phenomenal response, orders were being taken just a couple of hours after the site went live. “It’s such a good feeling to see people having belief in our range and supporting us.”

The chaps at Wolf State haven’t really slowed down in terms of planning and designing, they’re still really keen to progress and move the brand forward! They have a few goodies set to come out for AW16 however right now the focus is on the launch collection “Explore the Unknown”.

Question Time!

Both Adam & Ryan from wolf state took a bit of time out of their busy day to answer our top 10 questions for every start-up brand…

1.What made you start up Wolf State?

We started up Wolf State because we wanted to start something new. We wanted to create something new and exciting and to express our creativity through clothing. We’d admired brands such as Horizon Bay, Represent, and STAG clothing, and wanted to replicate with our own design.

2. Was it easy creating the brand logo/identity?

We found our brand relatively easy to come up with. The name Wolf State was decided as we are Wolverhampton based. The logo and strap-line for the launch capsule ‘Explore The Unknown’ followed as we were exploring the unknown with what we were doing.

3. How did you decide what you were going to stock?

We decided we wanted to stock three tees to give people a choice. People have different styles and opinions so we came up with three designs that were different, but all fitted with our style. We had quite a few designs knocking about, but with help from a few close mates and colleagues, we narrowed down our choice to the three now on sale.

4. Tell us a little more about “Explore the Unknown”

Like we mentioned in the 2nd question, Explore the unknown is as much a strap-line for everyone else as it is for us. Its about wanting to get up and go, do something different, try something new, which is exactly what we were doing when starting the brand.

5. You mentioned you wanted to expand. Is there anything you’re dying to create/stock?

We would like to expand. The tee’s are selling well, but we would like another line of tee’s out, potentially some hoodies and sweaters soon. We’re going to keep doing what were doing at the moment. AW16 is on the horizon though.

6. Do you each have a favourite tee that’s in stock? Which would you choose?

We both have different favourites. Ryan’s is the Original Wolf tee, whereas mine is the Explore Tee.

7.Is it exciting to see the hard work paying off?

It’s great to see people wearing and appreciating the work that’s gone into our tees. We get a sense of satisfaction knowing we have created them from scratch, from the design, sourcing the tee supplier, the printer and all the other hard work that’s gone into it.

8.How would each of you describe your style, and do you think this influences the brand?

I would describe our style as contemporary with a slight old school twist to it. We have many people who influence us; P&Co, Represent, Horizon Bay, Stand Tall Amongst Giants, Inspected.

9.Where do you see Wolf State in 2 years time?

In 2 years time, we would like to have a few lines out and be relatively established.

10. Where would you Wolf State to be in 5 years time?

In 5 years, we would like to have many lines out and to have developed the brand. We’re taking it step by step for now though, little steps.

Underwear to Invest in!

Have you ever bought a cheap umbrella from a convenience store thinking that it was a good deal since it was affordable and the quality seemed nice only to be disappointed when it started raining? There you are standing in the rain, thinking that you are prepared, when all of a sudden an errant gust of wind blows on the umbrella and the hinges crack, it inverts and you are left with a useless bit of metal and fabric. Many of you have been through such a situation and have come out of it realising that just because something is affordable doesn’t make it good. Paying more for quality goods ensures that what you buy won’t unravel at the slightest gust of wind. It will last, it will be strong and you will most likely get a lot of use out of it until you need to replace it. The same principles apply when it comes to buying underwear as this article will show.

Comfort

There is a world of difference between the type of bed that you would get at a cheap hotel and one that you would find in a 5-star hotel. The same principle applies when it comes to purchasing designer underwear over something that is available for bargain basement prices.

For instance, Bum-Chums pants are hand sewn using special cotton that is not only comfortable but actually allows the skin underneath the underwear to “breath” so to speak. This makes it more comfortable to wear and is incomparable to the type of boxers or briefs that you would buy in plastic packs. While you may be thinking that the amount of money invested into designer briefs is a bit too high considering the fact that they are just underwear, you need to consider the fact that, aside from pants, underwear is one of the most widely utilised clothing items you will wear throughout your life. Purchasing several expensive yet comfortable pairs will make a world of difference when it comes to going about your daily activities.

Bum-chums was created from an absolute and total desire to make underwear more sexy and better fitting for men. They wanted to make cheeky little fun numbers, to show off with design skills but still ensure they make them to the best quality they can.

Craig, at Bum-Chums, still makes the majority of the pants from a small factory at Brief-Towers, that’s always a hub of activity, crafting well-made garments, packing men’s underwear and showing the world that Britain is still on the map…

Take a moment from your hectic life and grab a cuppa in your nearest coffee shop or a beer or glass of wine at your favourite wine bar and park that neglected derriere on a comfy seat!

At Bum-Chums they design underwear to help our bums! We hardly give bums a second thought, we sit on them, fall on them, burn them, scratch them, scrape them, smack them, bite them (if you’re lucky) and wipe them, the list of abuses is endless. Yet that faithful “rear bundle” hardly ever complains and follows us about obediently wherever we go; always playing catch-up.

After all… it helps us stand up straight and walk, it takes the pain when we fall and it offers a satisfying outlet and (for some) inlet!

That’s why Bum-Chums choose comfort; to enhance, relieve, and indulge those long-suffering peachy, pert posteriors and give them the recognition they deserve. After all…. just like people, bums need chums!

We’ve been wearing a range of bum-chums range for some weeks now and we love them, they are comfy. We can tell that the pouch is made to cup and support. The materials vary and the stitch isn’t evasive. Each pair truly is made with out comfort in mind. The colours, materials and designs are endless, go take a look…

Longevity

Aside from comfort, well made and constructed underwear tends to last a lot longer than most types of underwear out there. Due to the quality of the materials that go into their creation, this makes them far more durable which allows them to undergo a lot more wear and tear. This allows them to last for years before they have to be replaced as compared to cheap pairs of underwear that only last a few months before the material starts to break apart either while you’re wearing it or while it is being washed.

For example, one common reason why people have to get rid of their old underwear is due to the wear and tear that occurs in the waistband. The elastic in this part of the underwear is vulnerable to deterioration over time since the material tends to get weaker after being washed and stretched multiple times. Sheath underwear is not subject to the same problem since the waistband is replaced with sturdy cloth cords that can last for years.

SHEATH is an indie company run by a small group of friends and family that doesn’t have high corporate overhead which is why they are able to offer reasonable prices to customers. Their a strong team with the determination to do what ever it takes to develop a successful brand that offers a premium product at a reasonable price, while helping those less fortunate along the way.

The inception of Sheath Underwear, as with the beginning of any company, came in the form of an idea. The idea was of a pouch underwear that completely isolates the male package from inner thigh region, providing a cool dry free commando sort of feeling. The product is now available but Sheath always warn you and always caution you: “WARNING: THESE UNDERWEAR MAY INDUCE A COMFORT COMA FOLLOWED BY COMPLETE MENTAL CLARITY.

Sheath is an underwear brand dedicated to the functionality and comfort of every pair of boxer briefs they produce. They’ve created a garment that works with you while you’re working hard.

Each style is hand crafted from a cotton/elastane blend that hugs your form and moves with your body throughout every wear. All sports are welcome in Sheath boxer briefs! The pouch supports and holds your boys right where you want them throughout any strenuous activity. The pouch will also keep your boys comfortable by sitting right where they should naturally and the lip curves under you for a better fit.Sheath makes sure their underwear can keep up with you. These styles are designed to reduce heat, avoid sticking, and to wick away unwanted sweat. The specially designed pouch also prevents the need for constant readjustment while you’re on the go.

The Sheath boxer brief has a classic boxer brief look with a great performance edge. They’re available in lotus white, excalibur blue, samurai red, ninja black, and katana grey. Sheath also offers each colour in singles, twin packs, and five packs in either one solid colour or multi-colour packs.

The Sheath boxer briefs are available in sizes S – XL and sizes XXL and XXXL are available in Black Singles only.

The packaging is a neat design that’s eye catching and simple. It has a touch of class. You can tell that these pants are made for endurance, when you need help in tough conditions or sport. The design of these boxers is simply, classy and masculine. You’d be proud to wear them around the locker room and feel fashionable.

SUKREW – Underwear to Invest In

What truly sets designer underwear apart from its ordinary counterparts is the level of detail and design that go into them. Designer underwear is meant to combine comfort and durability while at the same time looking unique yet aesthetically pleasing. People buy this sort of clothing since, despite the fact it won’t be seen, the design looks good and for them this is the most important characteristic when it comes to the items that they choose to wear. In fact, the design of some types of designer underwear is so good that they can be worn around a home as shorts.

If you’re after a unique design and something out of the box, if you’re feeling kinky, go check out SUKREW. We reviewed SUKREW a few months ago, and we’re still seriously impressed. A striking underwear, with many a variation to consider, from boxers, briefs, jockstraps and even more adventurous underwear for the risque viewers.

Bold colours, a bold style and a striking waistband with the SUKREW logo on, wearing these to the gym you’ll be the envy of most after while.

Branding

If you’re the sort of person that is loyal to particular luxury brands, then choosing Undamentals is a great way to further increase your brand loyalty. While it may be rather strange, various luxury brands do create their own luxury underwear lines that are oriented towards men. These tend to be designed under the same specifications of their other luxury goods and, as such, you can be assured that when you do buy luxury briefs under their brand they are crafted with the best possible designs and materials.

We reviewed Undamentals a few months ago (read here) but we have to mention them again, because 3 months down the line their briefs are out best friend! They are supportive but roomy and allow your chap to breath. Well worth considering.

The branding of Undamentals is striking and the ethos is outstanding.

If you’re a fan of Undamentals, they are currently running a competition on their website and on twitter…you can win a 1 year subscription of pants! That’s right, let the the guys take the hassle out of buying undies!

Conclusion

All in all, these underwear  brands are a good choice for individuals that want to invest a bit more money into an article of clothing that they will likely use continuously for several years. While it may initially seem like a foolhardy investment, the fact remains that the durability, comfort and style that you can get out of them makes the investment more than worth it in the end. With numerous luxury brands creating their own iteration of men’s underwear, you will definitely not lack choices when it comes to the design and type of material you want.

#NTTMFW – What you need to know for Spring/Summer 2016

3007_9779

It’s been a busy week of catwalk shows, style master classes, pop-up performances and shopping offers as Nottingham Fashion Week took over the city.

Nottingham put on its very first week-long event to celebrate everything fashionable in the city – and fans flocked to various locations to check everything on offer – including us!

We managed to head along to the conclusion of the week when the anticipated Style Show Live took place and taking to the stage to host was BBC Radio 1 presenter Alice Levine. Before everyone hit the runway for the show, we managed to throw some questions at Alice as she took the hot seat, alongside show stylist Lola Royale and show co-coordinator Gaz Davies.

Alice, who many of you probably didn’t know is from Beeston, a Nottingham suburb, said: “It’s about time the city was recognised for its great fashion!”

About the Style Show, which featured pieces from well-known stores such as John Lewis, Debenhams, Primark, Topman and Hobbs. As well as Nottingham’s much loved independent brands and designers, including Gigi Bottega, Stick and Ribbon and Headcase Headwear, Alice added: “It’s a really nice showcase. If I say to people I’m from Nottingham, they always know about the shopping. This event is collaborating with what’s already here.

“When I come back I always shop – I love vintage and my favourite is the Sue Ryder store in Beeston. I’ve started bringing an empty bag with me when I come back.

“There are 50 retailers taking part in the live style shows and it’s good to see it all in motion.

What’s great is that people can watch the catwalk shows and then see in the programme where the clothes are from and go buy them.”

The beauty of Nottingham Fashion Week is that it is pitched at everyone perfectly. They are genuine items from our favourite high street stores, it has that achievable feel, where we know we could go out and buy it, style it and know we’re looking good for Summer. It’s one of the reasons why we wanted to take part here at High Street Gent.

At the beginning of the week there was great focus and perfect opportunity for the start-up brands and independents that Nottingham loves to display their work and ideas. We asked Alice, Lola and Gaz what they thought. Lola said: “I was over-whelmed when I went down to Made in Nottingham to see what people are achieving down there, it was humbling to see so much hard work paying off for people and some great clothing, designs and what could be future brands we know and love.”

Alice added: “It’s part of Nottingham’s charm when it comes to fashion, the brands down there have great support and nurturing from the likes of Made in Nottingham. I saw Ratchet Clothing in there and wanted to buy it all.”

The Style Show

So you’re probably wanting us to get on with why we attended Nottingham Fashion Week, and rightly so. The style show was broken down into six key trends to consider this Spring/Summer, and here goes. Well tell you a little about each and below are some photos. If you hover over each image, you’ll be able to find out where the items each model is wearing and where it is from.

Enjoy, we hope to see you wearing them this year!

Nauticaluxe

Influencing everything from apparel and accessories to colour, materials and beyond, discover how seafaring aesthetics can be updated with clean shapes and unexpected details to create effortlessly elegant styles.

Bringing the seaside to the city, nautical nostalgia is refreshed with a modern twist.

Classic stripe prints incorporate colour pops and changes in direction. Sportswear inspirations emphasise the clean appearance of designs. Uneven hems and wraparound layers introduce an urban element.

Botanicals

(Bear with us on this one, don’t be afraid!) Botanical illustrations are key as we look at the florals in a scientific manner. Sketched imagery of other wildlife such as bugs and butterflies also comes into play as the colour palette is natural with brown undertones.

Monochrome

Is there anything more timeless than black and white? The dominance of contrast prints is in this season. Which probably proves that monochrome is as relevant as ever, and the perfect way to work conversation prints and patterns into your wardrobe. We all default back to black & white if we’re unsure, so here’s the perfect opportunity to remain on trend.

Think Pink

Think pink…but not if you’re not very daring. There’s a variety of pinks you can wear, from a dusky pink (similar to ruining your white shirt in the wash with a red sock) or simply accessorising. For those bold movers out there, full hot pink can work if it’s what you want!

Dreamweaver

Think festivals. If you’re heading to a festival this year, the Dreamweaver trend is perfect for you. Think boo-hoo, think patterned, over-sized and complete hippy. Not to everyone’s choice, but you don’t have to go all out. Keep it casual.

Colour Clash

Our personal favourite from Saturday’s style show, it quite literally does what it says on the tin (pun definitely intended). Nothing is too colourful for this summer, buy it bright, buy it bold and make it clash.

So there we have it. There are a few ideas for you guys (and girls this time) to consider for this year. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank my photographer kate-henderson-photography.com for all the fantastic photos you can see. Please see below for a slide show of the whole event and for more ideas. Another thank you to Gemini PR and It’s in Nottingham.
